One day last month, when we were using our oven, Smiley was talking with us about numbers and temperature. He asked how hot was a candle, and the stove downstairs burning firewood?
The numbers were a lot bigger than I expected. Candle flames are about 1,800 °F and the flames in a wood stove get to be 2,700 °F. The catch is that these are flame temperatures. The air around the fire is much cooler.

All I Want for New Years is to Finally Stop Teething
More teething news for Gallant. (The last update was at the very end of October.)
On December 18th, after two months of acting like more teeth were imminent, Gallant finally had his next twelfth tooth break through: his upper right canine.
He kept teething. On December 29th his lower right lateral incisor broke through. The next night his upper left canine broke through.
Hooray! As soon as these new teeth finish arriving he will have a balanced smile: six teeth on top and four on bottom (plus four balanced molars a smile would not show).
But he is still teething! He gnaws on his fingers and toys way in the back of his mouth. He must be working on his two-year molars.
