Each week I send out and e-mail to Smiley's preschool classmates and other close friends, sharing our plans and inviting them along. Here is today's example, which I am blogging as a way to reach out to any of his friends we have not seen in a while. I have changed the boys' names to their blog names.
Hi again!
A mid-week update is unprecedented, but the weather has
changed and I had forgotten to include some stuff when I wrote on
Monday morning.
Also, on a whim I decided to also send this
particular "things to do" e-mail to a handful of Smiley's old friends
whom we have not seen in a long time. If receiving it makes you happy
or annoyed, please reply and let me know. Apologies if this is spam in
your mind!
:-)

How could I have forgotten to mention Eugene Public Works Day!?
From 8:30am to 3pm the front of Roosevelt is transformed into a fun
place to explore the city's services: parks and natural areas, police,
fire, airport, radio, wastewater, engineering,
maintenance. Climb on and ride in big vehicles! Fun activities! All
for free.
I had asked about planning a get-together at the new game store in town, Funagain Games. Someone beat us to it! The local homeschooling network has organized a free, hour-long event for all ages starting at 1pm.
Since there is a shuttle going between the Eugene downtown bus
station and the Public Works Day, and Funagain Games is easy walking
distance from that bus station, we might make a bus ride outing to do
both. Reply or call me (541-221-3163) if you want to join us and we'll pick a fixed time to meet.
Friday, May 17
Today (Wednesday) we're tired because
little Gallant has not been sleeping well, so perhaps Friday would be
better for a hike up Spencer Butte, weather permitting. RSVP if you
want to join us. We'll probably play at Amazon Park for a while while
snacking, then leave for the trailhead at 12:45pm or so.
Saturday, May 18
From 10am to 1pm there are free activities (and free food) at LCC's Cafeteria for Lane Family Day.
The UO JS Museum of Art is hosting a free kids' event at noon, about
art and animals. Sounds great!
Not tired yet on Saturday? From 2pm to 4pm the Parenting Now group (used to be called Birth to Three) is hosting a bunch of squishy activities.
We're not sure which of these three options we'll attend. Feel
free to pick your favorite and invite us by replying or calling me.
Sunday, May 19
Wildflower Festival at Mount Pisgah Arboretum, 10am to 5pm
Monday, May 20
Not sure what we're doing at noon. Probably Amazon Park. Then what? This crazy weather!
One of Smiley's friends has invited us to visit his martial arts
class at 3:30. According to the mom, this is mostly 4- and 5-year-olds
learning to safely wrestle on the mats. A free trial class sounds
great!
Despite it happening at little Gallant's bedtime, we might stay up late to attend a free geeky music performance at 7 p.m at the Beall Concert Hall in the Frohnmayer Music Building at the University of Oregon.
Tuesday, May 21
We're loving our Tuesday morning skateboard, bus, and library song-and-story-time routine. Maybe see you there when the library opens at 10am? Maybe do lunch together at 12:30?
