David,

Mazel-Tov to you and Ceri. Sherry informed me about Simon's birth and that Ceri needed to have a C-Section. I'm glad all went well.

You may have heard that I am currently working as an Oracle contractor in San Francisco, at Stanford University's Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC).

It is the most interesting job I've had to date. Since my degree is in math and physics, working with the physicists here sparks the creative juices in me. I'm helping them centralize their research data into an Oracle database as well as designing web interfaces over this data.

SLAC recently extended my contract (this is the fifth extension since starting back in Jan 2007) until end of September. I'm renting a small cottage on someone's property about 4 miles awway from SLAC. I decided not to drive my car here, and so, I walk back and forth to and from work. It is actually a most enjoyable time as I pass many beautiful trees and flowers and nice people along the way and, I might add, quite a number of bicyclists and joggers.

As you can imagine, being separated by 2800 miles of space from Sherry is the bad news about this job. But with Daniel graduating from RIT in May and Rachel already in her own apartment and getting married in August, Sherry and I intend to sell off the house and she will move to where ever it is I am working at the time.

Meanwhile, Sherry comes to visit me during the year, being a school nurse, she gets the school holidays off. And I come back to Rochester. Not an ideal situation, but better than nothing. I always have my feelers out for Oracle related jobs in Rochester, but there are none (of any worth, anyway) thus far.

I've been attending a small First Baptist Church close to where I'm living, about a quarter mile away. The pastor is a retired college professor and the congregation is small and very friendly. I do miss Messianic worship, though. There is a large Jews For Jesus group in San Francisco, but without a car it's quite difficuly for me to get involved.

By the way, Ceri might be interested to know that SLAC is doing research with Zebra fish. Although I suspect she (and you) have more vital interests focusing your attention these days.

Take care.
